How to Keep Love Alive

Love.

We’ve all heard about it, and we’ve all dreamed of one day finding a partner who would give us the type of love that is talked about in stories, right? But once you’ve discovered love… is that the end of the story?

Not at all. Not only is it possible to find someone who gets you on a deep, spiritual, and emotional level, but it’s possible to keep that love alive and thriving, as well.

Romantic love is a type of love that is available and attainable, so long as you’re open to the possibility. There’s no such thing as being “worthy” or “unworthy” of love. Love is something that other people give to you and that you give to other people. They choose if they want to love you—no strings attached—and you choose if you want to love them.

At the end of the day, that’s all love is. However, as with all things in life that are worth having, you have to work at it. Read on to learn about some things you can do to help you keep your love alive, healthy, and thriving!

Communication

Communication is the key to any relationship. It doesn’t matter how old you get or how much you’ve been through together. The only way you can truly understand what another person is thinking is by talking to them.

Find ways that work best for you and your partner—go on walks together, have dinner together a few times a week, or even destress with one another in the evenings! Find ways to connect with your loved one to ensure that you’re on the same page and that both of you are still willing to keep the love alive.

Make Use of Love Languages

You must make sure you are continuing to work on your relationships. Check in with your partner and see how they’re doing. If they’re going through a rough path, see what you can do to support them.

Speak to them through their love language, especially if they are the type for whom actions speak louder than words. There are days when it may not seem easy, or you might feel lost and unsure about how best to support your partner and be supported in return, but at the end of the day, it boils down to communication and working towards happiness with the person you’ve chosen.

No matter how stable your relationship is, that doesn’t mean that love easy. To keep a relationship alive, you must be willing to do the hard work because it’s important.

Check In With Yourself

A relationship may be a two-way street, but it doesn’t mean you can’t take time for yourself. When you’re in a healthy relationship with someone, you will want to support and cherish them even during hard times. This type of love is a way to give of yourself to support someone else… however you can’t support someone else if you’re running on empty.

Taking time for yourself in a relationship isn’t selfish—it’s necessary. Make sure you’re checking in with yourself as often as necessary to recharge the well that allows you to support your partner. Treat yourself to your favorite dessert once a week, or rewatch your favorite episode of your favorite TV show when you need some self-care.

Speak with your partner about your needs—and allow them to do the same for you. Don’t allow either of you to give and give and give until there is nothing left.

Takeaway

No matter the age of your relationship, once you know you’re with that special someone, you know. But it’s not enough to just know—you have to be willing to put in the effort to keep it thriving.

Loving someone means you’re constantly falling in and out of love with the same person over and over again for your whole life. Just because you’ve found your special someone doesn’t mean it’ll be easy. However, so long as you’re willing to nurture the flame of your love, you’ll be in a good place for your relationship.

There’s no such thing as being worthy or unworthy of love. All that matters if that you’re able to give and receive love. And, once you’ve found it, don’t let it go!
